Barrie Sub-Committee

The purpose of the Barrie Sub-Committee will be to organize events in Barrie. This includes Fierté Simcoe Pride’s annual Pride festival events and year round events. It also includes organizing the annual Pride march/parade in Barrie along with other Pride Fest in Barrie.

This sub-committee was formed in Spring of 2019 to create sustainable, transparent, and community-led change that will better meet the needs of community and share resources and workload. Read more about Sub-Committees here.

Celio de Andrade (he/him pronouns) is a graduate in Public Relations from Rio de Janeiro State University, and is a Business- Marketing student at Georgian College. Growing up in a favela (poor area) in Rio de Janeiro, he fought against social inequality, prejudice, and homophobia. In his community in Brazil, he advocated for minorities rights and created a YouTube channel to discuss topics related to social inequality and LGBTQ+ issues. 

Celio has experience in social responsibility field, area that he worked in an oil company in Brazil, he was part of an organization of social impact businesses, helping to create a positive impact across his home country and worked as a speaker discussing themes related with social inequality, favela, and LGBTQ+ issues. 

In Canada, he is VP marketing volunteer in a global organization called Enactus, which is a community of entrepreneurial leaders who see business as a way to address social issues and is engaged with LGBTQ+ issues. Celio is passionate about life and in creating a good environment for everybody. He believes that just with equity we can build a better world!

Charlotte Laws (she/her pronouns). Charlotte has lived in the Barrie area since 2006, when she moved over from England. She is passionate about emotional health and well-being and has worked extensively in various roles within the mental health and addictions field, working with diverse populations. Since completing her Masters in Applied Psychology last year Charlotte now provides therapy to individuals incorporating various modalities, such as CBT and DBT.

She is a passionate advocate for her community and also works diligently towards providing counselling and outreach support to those in the local LGBT2SQ community, who might benefit from her positivity and support. As an active member of the LGBT2SQ community, Charlotte feels that it is important to provide safe space for people to access support when needed, especially trans and gender diverse folks, who are looking for emotional support during their transition journey.

She currently sits on the Simcoe County LGBTQ+ Network, the North Simcoe Muskoka Trans Health Steering Committee, and has chaired her agency’s Pride Sub Committee in planning and organizing participation in Pride events in Barrie over the past three years. Charlotte is delighted to join the FSP Barrie Sub-Committee, and looks forward to working as part of this vibrant team, becoming more involved and connected with the local LGBT2SQ community as it develops and grows.

Chris Sheridan (they/them pronouns) is a non-binary individual who is a two time Honours graduate from Georgian College. They are active in their local community working on activism projects, fundraising, and volunteer work. They have a place in their heart for the homeless and mental health sectors, and are passionate about the people they serve.

Being one of the founding members of the Georgian Pride group at Georgian College, they have worked to build relationships with Fierté Canada Pride, InterPride, Borden Pride, Muskoka Pride, and Fierté Simcoe Pride. They are also a key player in bringing more inclusive campus policies for all whom come to Barrie campus. This year they have been the Pride Ambassador of the Georgian College Wellness and Health Action Team (GC WHAT), and currently sit on the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee at Georgian.

Colin Nelthorpe (he/him pronouns) has lived in Barrie for most of his life and is recent graduate from Georgian College where he studied as a Mechanical Technician - a field he now works in locally.

Over the last few years he has become increasingly involved in Pride and politics in Simcoe County, volunteering at events and running for municipal office. Colin is excited to work with Fierté Simcoe Pride and help the ever growing Pride community locally.

Gabriel L. (he/him pronouns) is an art school graduate who grew up - and has lived - in Simcoe County for most of his 26 years.

He has roughly 4 years of experience with event organizing and support group facilitating.

​Gabriel is a 2 Spirit, Trans masculine individual who is passionate about this community. advocating for Queer and Trans youth, mental health, harm reduction and decolonization while being an activist in this community are all things that drive him. He strives to keep all spaces inclusive and safe for everyone.

Jeffrey Dale (he/him/they/them pronouns) works in ministry in the United Church of Canada for Grace United Church (Barrie) and Shining Waters Regional Council as the Youth Ministries Coordinator.

​Jeffrey holds an Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Guelph and has worked in theatres across the country. Jeffrey lives in Barrie with his dog, a mutt named, Max.

Keegan Hobson (he/him pronouns) is a post-secondary student who is active in his local communities through activism, volunteer work, community outreach and workshop facilitation. With an emphasis on at-risk queer and trans youth and utilizing harm reduction approaches, he is passionate about 2SLGBTQI+ rights, mental health advocacy and Indigenous movements. 

Joining the Board of Fierté Simcoe Pride in 2016, he has worked alongside Georgian Pride as their Social Media Director and as a Board member of our neighbouring organization, Muskoka Pride. 

Keegan is an alumnus of the Aboriginal Community and Social Development program at Georgian College, and is now attending Ryerson University in Toronto for his Bachelor of Social Work with a minor in Disability Studies. 

First elected to the Board in 2016, he has served as the Regional Representative for Barrie in 2016, Vice Chair since 2017, and Secretary since 2018. Keegan now also serves as the Board's representative on both the Barrie and Trans Pride Sub-Committees.
