FIERTÉ SIMCOE PRIDE 2016
SIMCOE COUNTY, ON —  July 21, 2016 -- Fierté Simcoe Pride (FSP) announces the fifth annual county-wide Pride, taking place from July 27 to August 6, 2016.

FSP formed in 2012 with the vision of a safe and inclusive Simcoe County that supports and unites the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and allied (LGBTA) community. This year’s Pride has municipal support from 20 communities, including 19 proclamations and 17 flag raisings. The theme for the fifth anniversary Pride is “Celebrate,” which recognizes the accomplishements the LGBT community has made locally, nationally, and internationally.

Fierté Simcoe Pride 2016 is an eleven-day-long festival of events throughout Simcoe County including:
July 27 – Flag Raising in Collingwood followed by the Opening Ceremony at the County of Simcoe
July 28 – Flag Raisings in CFB Borden, Wasaga Beach, Tiny, Tay, Midland, and Penetanguishene
July 28 – Pride Party kick-off at the Lion’s Gate in Barrie
July 29 – Flag Raisings in Barrie, Innsifil, Bradford West Gwillimbury, New Tecumseth, and Essa
July 31 – Dusk-till-Dawn Movie Night at the Drive-In in Oro-Medonte
August 2– Flag Raisings in Oro-Medonte, Orilla, and Ramara
August 3– Candlelight Vigil in Barrie
August 4 – First ever Trans Pride March in Simcoe County, held in Orillia
August 5 – Arts and Culture Night with asilent auction at the Orillia Museum of Art and History
August 6 – The 2nd annual Simcoe County LGBT Community Awards Gala at the GBNFC in Midland

The County/Township/Town/City of ___________ does hereby proclaim July 28 to August 6, 2016 as Fierté Simcoe Pride.

WHEREAS;
This marks the fifth annual Simcoe Pride, and it’s purpose is to create a safe and inclusive Simcoe County that supports Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans-community members through services, activities and events; and

WHEREAS; The Rainbow Pride flag is raised to honour LGBT community members of Simcoe County. The Rainbow Flag was designed by Gilbert Baker in San Francisco in 1978. The colours represent the diversity of the LGBT community. The colour red signifies life; Orange is healing; Yellow is sunlight. Green represents nature. Blue symbolizes serenity, peace and harmony. And finally, purple represents spirit; and

WHEREAS; The Simcoe Pride Committee formed on May 13, 2012, and its mission is “to create inclusive events, activities and opportunities that rise above heterosexism, hetero-normativity and homo/bi/transphobia providing a safe community for LGBT people within Simcoe County”; and

WHEREAS; Fierté Simcoe Pride is filled with numerous events and activities that focus on education, awareness, community development, creative expression and fun for the whole family. Please visit www.fiertesimcoepride.com to learn more about Simcoe Pride and the activities of Simcoe Pride 2016.

ATTENDU QUE;
Ceci marque la cinquième édition annuelle de Fierté de Simcoe, son but étant de créer un comté sûr et inclusif pour la communauté lesbienne, gay, bisexuelle et trans, au travers de services, d’activités et d’événements; et

ATTENDU QUE; Le drapeau arc-en-ciel s’élève pour honorer la communauté LGBT du comté de Simcoe. Le drapeau arc-en-ciel a été imaginé par Gilber Baker à San Francisco en 1978. Les couleurs représentent la diversité de la communauté LGBT. La couleur rouge signifie la vie; orange la santé; jaune le soleil; vert la nature. Le bleu symbolise la sérénité, la paix et l’harmonie. Enfin, le violet représente l’esprit; et

ATTENDU QUE;
Le comité de la Fierté de Simcoe s’est formé le 13 mai 2012, sa mission étant de “créer des événements, activitées et opportunités inclusifs qui ont pour but de s’élever au-dessus de l'hétérosexisme , l'hétéro- normativité et l’homo/bi/transphobie pour une communauté LGBT en sécurité au sein du comté de Simcoe”; et

ATTENDU QUE; Fierté de Simcoe est remplie de nombreux événements et activités concentrés sur l’éducation, la prise de conscience, le développement communautaire, l’expression créative et le plaisir pour toute les familles.
