    Community Jury Panel Form

    The Community Jury Panel is responsible for selecting the a recipients for the Simcoe County Pride Awards in the categories of Youth, Person, Organization, Business, and Community of the Year.

    Please note that panel members may not be a nominator (a person who has submitted a nomination). We aim to prevent conflicts of interest.
    We ask this question to try and ensure a balance of panel members from each part of the county.

Evaluation Criteria
  • The nominee fully meets the eligibility criteria/description;
  • The value and rigor of the nominee’s body of work or contributions;
  • The nominee demonstrates commitment to further developing their career or work;
  • Identifies within the gender and sexually diverse spectrum or has contributed a significant amount as an ally.

Candidates from anywhere in Ontario will be considered, however, first consideration will be given to candidates from Simcoe County and the immediate areas surrounding.

Other considerations:
  • Posthumous nominations will be considered for the Lifetime Achievement Award;
  • Previous Nominees will be considered;
  • Previous Recipients cannot be nominated the year immediately following the receipt of their award, but will be considered after. Example: If the Recipient received their award in 2018, they cannot be considered again until 2020.

Nominations are submitted by the public using online forms hosted on the Fierté Simcoe Pride website. They are reviewed by the Awards Committee to confirm that nominees meet the appropriate criteria for the category for which they've been nominated. A short list, with a maximum of 5 nominees in each category, is then compiled from all the qualified nominations received.

The award recipients are voted on with a secret ballot by a Jury Panel under the supervision of the Co-Chairs of the Awards Committee. The Jury Panel is assembled from the following groups: three members of the Board of Directors and members of the Community Jury Panel. Interested community members are welcome to identify their interest in volunteering as a Jury Panel member by completing the appropriate form on our website (above).

The categories are voted on with a secret ballot a few days before the Awards Gala, under the supervision of the Awards Committee co-chairs. The co-chairs of that committee then count the votes and the confidential results are tabulated and secured in a locked briefcase. That briefcase remains locked until the night of the Awards Gala, at which time the President of FSP opens the briefcase on stage to reveal the outcome of this process.

Fierté Simcoe Pride is committed to honouring and celebrating all the Nominees each year, acknowledging  them from the stage at the annual Awards Gala.
